From Fulton Ferry: Building Downtown Brooklyn traces the impact transportation has had on Downtown Brooklyn for more than 350 years, from the first ferry to the present day, at the New York Transit Museum, housed underground in a decommissioned subway station in Downtown Brooklyn.
The visual challenge was to distinguish the sections of the exhibition (ferry, horses, Brooklyn Bridge) that all overlapped in time periods. The curator provided 40 pages of thumbnail images and text to transform into an exhibition. My solution was to separate the sections by a detail from a relevant postcard, and for the title, emulate the fonts used in the ticket to that mode of transportation. Saturated colors that related to the postcards and theme of the section enlivened the underground space.
